There are several connection methods for steel frame structures

Steel frame structure connections include riveting, welding, riveting-welding hybrid joints, and bolted connections. The advantages of riveting are reliable force transmission, good toughness and plasticity, easy quality inspection, and strong resistance to dynamic loads. However, the riveting method also has its shortcomings: the structure is complicated and the steel is laborious.

Steel structure is a kind of building structure dominated by steel, and it is a main form of building structure. The main steel structures are steel frames, steel beams, steel columns, steel trusses and other components, which are generally connected together by welding, screws or rivets.

steel frame structures

Because the steel frame structure is light in weight and light in construction, it can be widely used in large workshops, pubs, super high-rise residences, etc. There are three types of normal lap joints for steel structures: welding, bolting, and riveting.

1. Welded joints

In order to be able to bear the bending moment of the rigid connection structure, except for the structure directly bearing the dynamic load, the welding connection can be used in the ultra-low temperature state.

2. Bolt connection

Hinged joints (zero bending moment) can generally be used, with fast on-site operation, convenient disassembly and assembly, and convenient maintenance.

3. Riveting

When the force of the riveted structure is small.

Steel structure connection

The job of joining is to join sheets or profiles together in some way, or to combine several parts into a monolithic structure so that they work together.

Weld connection

Advantage:

  • Reduce section size and save steel structure;
  • It can be connected into parts in various states, and can be welded immediately when connected. Normally, no additional lap joints are required. The parts are simple and time-saving.
  • The connection is well sealed and the rigidity is high;
  • The automatic operation is easy and the productivity is high.

Shortcoming:

  • The material is a bit brittle in the heat-affected zone near the weld;
  • There is welding residual stress and residual deformation, which has an adverse effect on the construction of the structure;
  • Especially at low temperature, because of the problem of cracks, if a crack occurs inside, it can quickly expand to the entire section, especially at low temperature, it is easy to fracture.
  • Ordinary arc welding work and equipment, manual arc welding normally has semi-automatic submerged arc welding and automatic submerged arc welding.
