Building warehouse with steel structure is better than reinforced concrete
Steel structure is superior to reinforced concrete in stiffness, strength and ductility, and it is easy to construct strange building forms.
The serviceability parameters such as stiffness, vibration and deformation are determined by the stiffness of the component. Stiffness of structural system: the actual stiffness of structural system is determined by the distribution of members and connectors. Simply put, the stiffness of a member depends on the geometric section characteristics and elastic modulus of the material. The elastic modulus of structural steel is usually 200GPa, while the elastic modulus of concrete with ordinary density and compressive strength in the range of 20-40GPA is usually in the range of 20-28GPA. Even the elastic modulus of high-strength concrete is only 40-45GPA. It can be seen that the rigidity of steel structure is about twice as much as that of concrete, so the rigidity advantage of steel structure is obvious.
Ductility: Ductility refers to the ability of a material to undergo plastic deformation without fracture during tension. In general, ductility is an important characteristic parameter in structural design, especially in seismic design. In seismic design, the survival of buildings in the earthquake directly depends on the hysteretic energy consumption of the main structure frame when it experiences large inelastic deformation. It can be said that steel structure is one of the engineering materials with wide application and good toughness.
Toughness: The ability of a material to absorb energy and plastic deformation before fracture is measured by toughness. It can prevent the propagation of unstable cracks in the gap. Toughness usually refers to the ability of steel structures to withstand large industrial deformation during manufacturing, installation and use, which is a very important characteristic of steel structures. It is the toughness of steel components that reduces the possibility of cracking during bending, shearing, stamping, forging and drilling. The steel structure has sufficient fracture toughness, especially for the building structure bearing alternating load and impact load.
Overall: It can be seen from the above that steel structures are superior to reinforced concrete in terms of stiffness, strength, ductility, etc. It is easy for steel structures to form strange architectural forms. So it is better to building warehouse with steel structure than reinforced concrete.
Generally speaking, the steel structure system can provide the best design flexibility and maximum space utilization. Another advantage of steel structure is that it is also an ideal cantilever structure system. The open web steel support and opening are applicable to the component web, providing access for power lines such as pipes, which not only reduces the floor height, but also increases the aesthetics.
